Kickoff Celebration
Celebration remarks From Tom Manning-Beavin
“Partnerships have the power to turn visions into reality. This project is a testament to that power.”
Tom Manning-Beavin, President and CEO of Frontier Housing, used those words Oct. 30, 2024, to commemorate the U.S. EPA Brownfields Cleanup Project for Hayswood Hospital Kickoff Celebration.
Manning-Beavin thanked Mason County Judge-Executive Owen McNeill and Maysville Mayor Deborah Cotterill on behalf of the board and staff of Frontier. “It is an honor to be with you today, to celebrate the beginning of the next chapter of Hayswood Hospital,” he said.
Manning-Beavin recognized Frontier’s board for being willing for staff to explore what Frontier could do in Mason County, and particularly with this grand building. Early on, the board saw that Frontier could have a positive impact in Maysville and encouraged Frontier’s expansion here.
“I also want to thank Mayor Cotterill and Judge McNeill for their partnership. They are essential to this project’s success. I am sure that without their leadership, advice, encouragement and support, we would not be here today. Frontier would not have pursued this project without them,” he said.
Stephanie Cooley of Frontier staff and Kristie Dodge from Buffalo Trace Area Development District led the effort to apply to the EPA for the Brownfield Clean-up grant. There were too many contributors to name, but a host of people played vital parts in putting that successful grant together. And, Kristie & Stephanie continue to work together to lead Frontier’s effort to implement this work.
“They say timing is everything. Frontier happened to arrive at the right time, willing to work with the community partners who knew that this project would make a huge difference for Maysville and Mason County,” Manning-Beavin said.
“Our vision for Hayswood aligns with the vision of our partners here in Maysville. We plan to preserve this beautiful building, and help it become a community asset once again. We know that there is a scarcity of quality housing across the Commonwealth, and so our preliminary vision for Hayswood is to create a mixed-income housing community. My hope is that it becomes a place where a variety of people who want to live downtown: doctors, schoolteachers, bank tellers, first responders, lawyers, and other…. can call home. We will continue to work with our partners and the community of Maysville as we finalize those plans. And we look forward to a ribbon cutting in the not-to-distant future.”
Speakers at the event included Gov. Andy Beshear, Judge-Executive McNeill, Mayor Cotterill, Rep. Will Lawrence, Sen. Steve West, Amanda LeFevre, state Deputy Commissioner, Department of Environmental Protection, and Herb Petitjean, former state Director, Department of Environmental Protection.
