STERLING, KY – Wanda Mobley and her family have a new, energy-efficient home where they can live happy, healthy, and comfortable for many years to come.
They were welcomed to their new home at 209 Jameson Street, Mt. Sterling, on Friday by representatives of the City of Mt. Sterling and Frontier Housing.
Mrs. Mobley and her husband, along with their children and grandchildren, lived at 213 Montgomery Ave. in Mt. Sterling. The home was 70 years old and beyond repair. It was expensive to heat and cool, and too small to meet the family’s needs.
Frontier Housing constructed the Mobley family a new home on Jameson Street on a lot donated by the City of Mt. Sterling. The lot is one block from the family’s original home.
This allowed the family to continue living in their current home during construction and kept the family in the same neighborhood in which they have lived for quite some time. The Mobley family then sold their property at 213 Montgomery Avenue to Frontier.
Frontier will demolish the home, clear the lot of debris and use the lot on Montgomery Avenue for the development of additional affordable, well-constructed housing.
“This is a wonderful day for our community,” said Mt. Sterling Mayor Al Botts. “Today we celebrate the completion of a project that began with a partnership between the City and Mt. Sterling and Frontier Housing. The city donated the lot for this project. This lot would have most likely sat unused for quite some time if we had not. Frontier worked with the Mobley Family to build this beautiful house. Today we all are fortunate enough to celebrate the completion of this new house and welcome the Mobley Family to Jameson Avenue. Congratulations to everyone involved! This is indeed what a great community looks like!” the Mayor said.
“June is Homeownership month, and on days like this I am reminded just how important partnerships are in making the dream of homeownership come true,” said Frontier President & CEO Tom Manning-Beavin. “We want to thank Mayor Botts for his leadership, the Mt. Sterling City Council for their support in donating the building lot to Frontier so we could build this home for the Mobley family, and USDA/Rural Development and Kentucky Housing Corporation for the funding the Mobley’s needed. I also want to thank the Mobleys for believing that we could help them own this new home. I am very glad we’ve been able to work together to make this happen.”
